On October 13, 2026, Anthropic closed out every Claude for Startups application that was still under review. The official FAQ says the current cohort “is now full” and that the program is not accepting new applications, with no reopening date. If you applied after the October 6 announcement and hadn’t claimed the offer before October 9, you won’t get the free year of Claude Team or the $1,000 in API credits, at least for now. Your next steps are picking a plan to pay for and checking what your current subscription already includes.
Expanded on October 6, paused three days later
On October 6, 2026, Anthropic expanded its program for early-stage companies. TechCrunch laid out the offer the same day: a free year of Claude Team with up to five Premium seats, $1,000 in API credits (about €894) and virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team. Companies founded in the last five years, or that had raised money in the last two years, were eligible.
On October 9, the official Claude account on X announced that the free Team year and the $1,000 credit were paused. Sarah Wolf, Anthropic’s head of startup marketing, explained why: in its first 48 hours, the program had received 21 times as many applications as in the previous five months. She acknowledged that the acceptance criteria hadn’t been tuned properly and that many non-startups had been accepted. Every application with an unclaimed offer went back into review, including those already approved, and the FAQ set a goal of reviewing each one within a week.
The answer came four days later. The FAQ, rewritten between October 12 and 13, puts it plainly: “we weren’t able to move forward with applications that were still in review, and we’ve emailed everyone affected.” The apply button is gone from the page. On Reddit, some applicants shared the email around 11 p.m. Brussels time on October 13.

Who keeps what after October 13
It all depends on where your application stood on October 9.
- You claimed the offer before October 9. That day, Anthropic wrote that the Team year and the credit would remain in your account. The October 13 FAQ doesn’t repeat that line. It does confirm that the program continues for current members.
- You’re a member of the program. You keep the Claude Startup Stack: discounts and credits from partner companies, advertised as worth “up to $45,000” (about €40,000). On October 9, Anthropic noted that these perks are offered by independent third-party companies. The live sessions with the Applied AI team continue, now described as group webinars every other week with a Q&A segment.
- Your application was still under review. It has been closed, even if your business met the criteria. The FAQ points you to the Claude Startup newsletter to find out when the next cohort opens.
What Claude costs without the offer
For a small business, the lost offer was worth a lot. At the annual list price, five Premium Claude Team seats cost about €5,360 a year, and the offer added $1,000 in API credits on top. The table shows prices before tax. Pro and Max are billed in euros in Europe: these are the prices shown to a Belgian account on September 28, 2026, checked for our plan comparison. Team and the API credits are set in dollars on Anthropic’s pricing page and help center as of October 13, 2026, and we converted them at that day’s European Central Bank rate (€1 to 1.1188 dollars).
| Plan | Price per month, before tax | Monthly API credit included |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | €18 billed monthly, €15 billed annually | none |
| Max 5x | €90 | about €89 |
| Max 20x | €180 | about €179 |
| Team, Standard seat | about €22 billed monthly, €18 billed annually | about €18 per seat |
| Team, Premium seat | about €112 billed monthly, €89 billed annually | about €89 per seat |
Team is built for teams of 2 to 150 people. On that plan, the API credits from every seat are pooled and capped at $500 (about €447) a month. If you work alone, look at Pro or Max instead. Our comparison of Claude Pro, Max and Team breaks down how usage differs across the three.
The monthly API credit included with Max and Team is the closest replacement for the lost $1,000. On Max 5x, it adds up to $1,200 (about €1,070) a year, as long as you spend it: according to Anthropic’s help center, unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. Claude Haiku 5.5, Anthropic’s most cost-efficient model, costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens (about €0.09 and €0.45) for requests under 100,000 tokens. At that price, the credit goes a long way on repetitive work like sorting email or reading invoices.
Five checks to run this week
- Check your account by opening Claude and the Claude Console directly, rather than through a link in an email. If the Team seats or the program credit show up there, the offer is active.
- Was your application pending? Subscribe to the Claude Startup newsletter from the program page. It’s the only channel Anthropic has announced for the next cohort.
- Count the people who use Claude every day in your business. One person can get by with Pro or Max; Team starts at two users. If you keep running into Pro’s caps, read our guide to hitting the usage limit on Claude Pro before upgrading to Max.
- If you were counting on the credit to run an internal tool that calls the Claude API, such as an AI agent built without code, plan for Max or Team and link a Claude Console organization to your subscription. You can claim the credit in your claude.ai billing settings once you’ve been on an eligible plan for seven days.
- Backed by a venture fund? Ask whether it’s part of Anthropic’s partner network. The FAQ mentions up to $100,000 in API credits (about €89,000), claimed through the fund.
Before paying for Max or Team through your business, read Anthropic’s terms for your plan and the supplemental terms that cover API credits.
When the program might reopen
The next cohort has no date. The program page simply points to the Claude Startup newsletter as the way to hear when applications open.
The criteria will likely get stricter. On October 9, Anthropic wrote that it wanted a program “of, by and for startup founders,” and Sarah Wolf talked about keeping Claude Startups for startups. The current page no longer lists any eligibility criteria. A freelancer or a services agency will probably have a harder time getting into the next cohort than a company building a product on Claude.
The free Team year and the $1,000 credit have been paused since October 9, and the current page no longer mentions either one. Nothing suggests they’ll come back in the same form.
The numbers Anthropic hasn’t shared
Anthropic hasn’t said how many members it accepted or exactly how many applications it received. Its October 9 FAQ only put the count at hundreds of thousands. It’s also unclear how many of the approved applications sent back into review were confirmed between October 9 and 13.
